The advancements at USG Framing emerge from more than a century of innovation at USG, the Fortune 500 maker of SHEETROCK® Brand building materials.
Our company was founded in 1902 to manufacture plaster from gypsum. Decades later, USG invented and commercialized SHEETROCK® Brand Gypsum Panels as a faster, stronger and more efficient way to build, replacing plaster and lath construction and supporting builders and developers in the post-World War II housing boom.
Customer service is in the DNA of USG.
Most of our innovations have started with customer needs. For example, we tailored joint treatment formulations to different climates to ensure consistent performance across the country. And to meet strong demand for SHEETROCK® Brand Gypsum Panels, we improved manufacturing to increase production from 60 feet a minute to more than 600 feet a minute.
With our strong customer relationships, USG continues to invest millions of dollars a year in new technologies, processes and products through the Research, Development, Technology and Innovation Center. Inventions have included the steel stud that is the commercial precursor to the USG Framing solution, DUROCK® Brand cement board for wet environments, sophisticated elevator shaft and fire protection systems, and much more.
